Milestone 3

Persona & Scenario
Recap on The Product And The Key Tasks
  • Users can post the message that they have some food to share to the bulletin board, or send the message to someone they want to share with.

  • Users can accept someone's sharing or join someone's sharing actively.

Users can label themselves with some kind of food they interested in so that finding out the right food will be easier.

Users can evaluate the one who shared or whom was shared with.

The system can record users shopping records to prevent the users from buying too much.

Findings

We found that a small number of people would forget about the food deadlines, but they would keep in mind once they forgot it.

People care about the price drastically so that they tend to buy more things  initially to get low price for the single unit, which leads to surpluses in the end.

People usually realize they are going to buy too much food, so that they will find friends of family for sharing those foods before or after shopping.

Mostly, people get the information from their social media and chatting apps with their smart phones, and finishing the contact via line and messenger.

Results from Our Questionnaire
  • We collect 84 questionnaires from two Facebook groups, 53 from “Leftover Terminator” and 31 from “Second Female Dorm” at NCTU.

Which device do they like?

Most of people like to use mobile device instead of PC. With mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet), one can access information of food sharing in group anytime, also post their own sharing without effort. We use app as our design product based on this finding.

Two group have different reasons to share. Leftover Terminator have a common value, not to waste, so they share their food and do not expect return. Second Female Dorm at NCTU are a close community. Food can be shared in short time and meet in person easily, so they are more likely to share.

On the other hand, the most reasons that people do not share food is they don’t have surplus food currently.

Why share or not to share?

Whether people from both groups will join the sharing or not depends on how they need or like the shared food. Distance of meet in person is a main concern in our findings. Since members of Second Female Dorm live in a same area, their concerns turn into price and convenience.

The reasons people do not want to join food sharing is that food on those post does not meet their needs and too far to get the food. Our design contains the functionalities of recommending their favorites and food nearby.

Why join others’ sharing or not?

Beside these two Facebook group, people in our sample would turn into finding colleagues, family members, neighbors, or friends nearby.

Besides Facebook group

Most of the responses said they use messages or reply the post to communicate with sharing host. However, being late and missing messages sometimes bring inconvenience and negative experience. We provide messages in our design, also a simple evaluating system after each transaction. Hopefully the community of sharing left food would become more efficient.

How to contact and troubles

Currently our target users are mainly distributed from 18 to 44. Most of them are students and daily workers. One suggestion from questionnaire said we can extend our targets to elders, since elders often store many food. It can be part of our future design.
