Milestone 6
Usability Test
How you recruited and selected them
We distributed questionnaires to the community of food sharing, and asked the community members three questions:
-
First, have you ever shared your surplus food to others
-
Second, have you ever participated others’ surplus food selling or food sharing?
-
Third, have you ever attend group buying of food?
Screening out participants with high frequency of food sharing from those who meet the above criteria.

Participant characteristics
Harris has brought fruits from hometown and shared with friends in his lab.
Michelle launched group buying in Facebook group more than ten times.
Lin often sells second-hand items and surplus food, she also participates group-buying
Chiu used to participate in group buying of food.
Anne usually attend the food sharing and group buying launched by dormitory neighbors
Huang have received surplus food from others, launched food sharing, and participated in group buying launched by others. She is currently designing electric car sharing APP

Key findings and improvement
Eye-catching button with darker color or bigger size make users have the desire to click it.
Rethink which button we hope users to click and make it more eye-catching, and make the button that isn’t so important less eye-catching.
Users don’t know where to give reviews to participants.
Redesign the page of Participant List, making it more clear to where to give reviews to participants.
When choosing closing time and available time, users don’t exactly understand what the time means.
Redesign the way that users set the available time (set the start time and duration instead of end time); set the default of closing time at the starting of available time.
When giving reviews, If the users want to give negative reviews on someone, unchecking checkbox seems not express the negative feelings of user adequately. A “disagree” button will do the trick.
Changing the design to radio buttons “Yes/No” and default on “Yes”.
Scanning QRcode is not a good way to recognize participant since it cannot prevent from mistakenly identifying someone.
Redesign the function that helps user to recognize participant by asking participant to provide clothing information to sharer.
When assigning my location of interest in setting personal information, users want to use GPS to locate his position.
When assigning the location, the system will show Google Map, then users can choose location by clicking on the map and use GPS to recommend users the location near him.
